Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Is the salary information 100% accurate?
Answer: No. We do not systematically collect and analyze information. We rely totally on information our visitors submit, and we do not verify the information.
Question: How can I get the most out of this service?
Answer: Keep in mind that because we do not systematically collect information, we may have a lot of information on certain job titles in some geographical areas and little or no information on others. A few simple guidelines will help you determine whether to rely on the information:
- If there is only one entry in response to your search, it is hard to tell if that entry is indicative of the going market salary. It might be or it might not be. On the other hand, if there are a lot of entries matching your request, you can probably get a reasonably good idea of market salaries from our service.
- You should probably disregard any listings that are significantly higher or lower than most of the others. These listings are either so unusual as to be a unique circumstance that would not apply to most people or a prank listing.
- Start by searching for your job title and your city, state and country. That way you can find the listings that most closely match your situation. If you don't find any listings that way, try eliminating some of the search criteria to broaden your search. For example, search by job title and state and country to find all listings for that job title in your state. Or, you could try searching for a job title that is one level above or below yours and then use that information to determine what the salary should be for your job.
Question: What if I just can't find any listings that are relevant for me?
Answer: Unfortunately, in that case there is nothing we can do and you will have to find other sources of information, such as contacts in the industry. But it also means that not enough people are posting data. To really make this work, we need as many industry professionals as possible to post salary data. Please consider doing this yourself, if you have not already done so, and ask your colleagues to do so as well.
